14th January - The Scandal of Proximity

The Scandal of Proximity
St. Andrews, Kinson

Reading: Matthew 3:13-17

Devotional: Jesus didn't begin his ministry from a throne or a mountain. He joined the queue. The CEO showed up for the photocopier induction. This is the scandal of the gospel: God chooses closeness over distance, proximity over power. We're accustomed to leaders who stay behind velvet ropes, where success means removal from ordinary mess. Jesus moved in the exact opposite direction. He got his feet wet in the same water where everyone else washed off their failures. Following Jesus means getting close—listening more than speaking, noticing the quietly drowning, making room for stories beyond social media highlights. Where are you creating velvet ropes in your life? Who needs your proximity today?
