Week of Prayer for Christian Unity – 18–25 January 2026

This past week Christians around the world have been observing the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity - a global, ecumenical initiative inviting believers of all traditions to pray together for deeper fellowship and peace within the Body of Christ. The theme for 2026, “One Body, One Spirit,” comes from St Paul’s letter to the Ephesians and reminds us that, despite our different traditions and practices, we are called to reflect the unity Jesus prayed for in John’s Gospel.

During this week, many in our congregation have been following the reflections and prayers at Morning Prayer, joining in with Christians near and far to reflect on our shared life in Christ.

This Sunday in our service we’ll make a brief focus on this theme of unity, offering a prayer together and reflecting on what it means for us to be one in the Spirit while celebrating the richness of our diverse Christian family.

Here’s a simple prayer you might use or hold in your heart:

Prayer for Christian Unity
God of all, you call your people to be one body in Christ.
Grant us humility to listen, courage to love across differences,
and wisdom to walk together in peace.
May the Spirit bind us ever closer in faith and service,
that the world may see your love through our unity. Amen.

And here’s a reflection quote from the week’s theme to ponder:

“There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling.” — Ephesians 4:4

We hope this shared focus deepens our sense of belonging together as followers of Jesus — united in prayer and mission.
