Signposting and Support Officer - Kinson and West Howe Foodbank

We are seeking a warm, compassionate and organised Signposting & Support Officer to join our team. This role is central to ensuring that everyone who visits the foodbank feels welcomed, listened to and supported in a dignified and respectful way.

You will offer one‑to‑one support conversations, help identify underlying needs, and signpost people to appropriate local and national services such as benefits advice, debt support, housing, employment and wellbeing services. You will also help create a calm, safe and hospitable environment and support volunteers in delivering a trauma‑informed and consistent approach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Offer a warm, non‑judgemental welcome to all clients

  • Listen compassionately and build trust with people in challenging circumstances

  • Provide personalised signposting and support conversations

  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of local support services

  • Support and encourage volunteers working with clients

  • Maintain accurate records in line with GDPR and safeguarding requirements

  • Contribute to monitoring outcomes and identifying emerging needs

About You

Essential:

  • A caring, welcoming and compassionate approach

  • Strong listening and interpersonal skills

  • Experience supporting people in vulnerable situations

  • Willingness to work alongside St. Andrews Kinson and their values as an umbrella charity.

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately

  • Good organisational and time‑management skills

Desirable:

  • Experience in a foodbank, charity, church or community support setting

  • Knowledge of local services, benefits, housing or debt advice

  • Familiarity with the Trussell Trust

  • Training in safeguarding, trauma‑informed practice or pastoral care

Additional Information

  • Part‑time post: 20 hours per week (flexibility may be required), Wednesday 10-2, Thursday 9 – 4, Friday 10-2, 4 further hours to be flexibly applied in conversation when appointed.

  • The role is expected to be carried out in sympathy with the Christian ethos of St Andrew’s Church, Kinson

  • A DBS check will be required
