4th November: Hearts That Won't Hear
Reading: Isaiah 6:9-13; Luke 8:1-10
Devotional: The most tragic condition of the human heart is not ignorance, but willful deafness. Jesus quotes Isaiah when explaining why He speaks in parables—some hear but refuse to understand. Like Amaziah the priest, we can become so comfortable in our religious routines that we resist God's challenging word. We clamp our hands over our ears like petulant children. This isn't about intellectual capacity; it's about heart posture. God will not force understanding on those who refuse to listen. The disciples, however, asked questions when they didn't understand. They wanted to know. Today, examine your heart honestly: Are there areas where you're resisting God's voice because you fear what obedience might require? Soften your heart before it becomes hardened.
Reflection Question: Is there a biblical truth you've been avoiding because it challenges your current lifestyle?
